The variety is used as a forage crop, including sowing in mixtures with cereals such as oats or triticale, to improve productivity and forage quality. It is also used in organic farming as a cover crop for green manure.

The variety is adapted for cultivation under rainfed conditions in the Mediterranean. In agronomic studies, it often serves as a control or model variety when evaluating dry matter yield and efficiency in mixed crops.
