Bibei is a landrace collected in 1977 and registered as a conservation variety. The maize is characterized by yellow grain and belongs to the early maturity group.
The variety is not a commercial intensive-type hybrid. Its primary value lies in the conservation of biodiversity and its use as an adaptive genetic resource for recurrent selection programs aimed at increasing yield.
