The DE KALB XL 316 hybrid appeared in agricultural crop trial materials in the USA and Europe during the period 1975–1978. According to data from the European Communities at that time, the variety had an FAO 300 maturity group index or higher.
The crop's purpose included use for grain as well as harvesting green mass or silage for feed purposes. This hybrid is not represented in the company's current breeding programs.
