The DK 524 maize hybrid was developed by Dekalb Genetics Corporation. In various agronomic publications and variety lists of the 1990s, it was classified in FAO 460 or FAO 530 maturity groups, which was due to regional testing characteristics.
The term "Waxy" indicates a waxy grain type with an amylopectin content in the starch of about 100%, however, there is no direct confirmation of the use of this designation in the official name of the DK 524 hybrid in reference books. The hybrid is considered obsolete and is practically not present in modern production.
