F7 × F2 is a combination of two self-pollinated maize lines, F7 and F2. In mid-20th century maize breeding, this form was used as a maternal base for producing double and modified interline hybrids.
This genotype is characterized by early maturity. In scientific research, it is used as a reference sample when studying ear morphology, grain number, seedling growth rate, phenology, and genome composition. The variation in the number of grains per row in this form is determined primarily by the number of ovules during flowering.
