The hybrid is an early-maturing form that required about 2300 units of growing degree days to mature. By morphological type, it is classified as a double cross.

This hybrid was intended for grain production, with some reports indicating the possibility of its use for silage purposes. Due to its yield, PX 20 competed with late-maturing varieties and was often used as a standard reference in scientific studies of that period, including the study of phosphate uptake and root system salt tolerance.
