The RX 58 hybrid was a product of American breeding from the early 1970s. In maturity classifications of that period, it was categorized as a representative of the second maturity group.
In field trials, the hybrid demonstrated high dry grain yield. Agronomic reports noted resistance to southern corn leaf blight, provided that normal cytoplasm (N) was used.
