The name Vero in the context of maize is most often associated with confusion in terminology. The term is encountered in field trials in Turkey as one of the samples tested without a detailed description of characteristics. Also, in scientific literature, the word Vero is used to designate a cell line of the African green monkey kidney used in phytopathological studies.
The only specific variety mentioned in connection with this name is CP-Vero 1. This is a synthetic white maize variety bred in Mexico using a backcrossing program. This variety was selected for cultivation in highland conditions and demonstrates resistance to maize smut disease.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
