The hybrid was created using technology for the expression of the insecticidal protein Cry1Ab derived from Bacillus thuringiensis. The primary purpose of the variety was the control of the European corn borer Ostrinia nubilalis and the Mediterranean corn borer Sesamia nonagrioides.
In scientific research, the hybrid was often considered in comparison with its unmodified isogenic counterpart, the variety Dracma. The variety is a historical object that was used in EU agriculture in the late 1990s and early 2000s; it is currently not in active commercial circulation.
