The variety is of the open-pollinated type, which allows for the preservation of varietal characteristics in subsequent generations. The plant is characterized by a powerful and sturdy stalk, as well as rapid growth. The maturity group varies from mid-early to late.
The crop possesses good resistance to cold and humidity during the initial stages of vegetation, however, it is inferior to modern hybrids in lodging resistance. The variety is susceptible to common smut and is characterized by lower yields compared to bred hybrids.
Traditionally used as a forage crop for livestock feed or for silage production. It can also be used as a cover crop for green manure.
