The LH 146 line is used in breeding programs to develop hybrids and serves as genetic material for the creation of other inbred lines. Known examples of hybrid combinations involving it include LH59 × LH146 and LH146 × LH82.
The LH146Ht version of the line is characterized by an upright leaf orientation, including the flag leaf, which is nearly parallel to the stalk, and possesses a longer ear shank. When infected with northern corn leaf blight, it exhibits chlorotic lesions. Phenologically, it reaches 50% pollen shed and silking later than the CM105 line.
