This line belongs to the Iodent heterotic group. It was derived through self-pollination from the hybrid Pioneer 3704 and the line LH 82.
In breeding programs, the line was valued for its excellent combining ability, which allowed it to be used as a reference tester sample. Selection criteria included yield as part of hybrids, stalk and root strength, resistance to diseases and pests, as well as the ability to retain green leaf color in late developmental stages.
