This variety of maize is adapted to extremely hot and arid conditions. It represents an aboriginal ethnographic group including early forms, such as sweet corn, the description of which is found in agronomic literature of the early 20th century.
Representatives of this race are characterized by morphological features that distinguish them from modern commercial hybrids: a relatively narrow ear, light or bright yellow coloration, and a predominantly mealy or soft texture of the kernels.
