The line was obtained by breeders using the pedigree method from the PHT60 × PHR03 hybrid through seven generations of self-pollination and selection. It is specialized genetic material that most often acts as a pollen-producing paternal line, but can also serve as a maternal form.
In the inbred state, plants of this line are distinguished by a pale green color. Compared to a number of other lines, PH03D is characterized by a shorter leaf length, a smaller number of leaves above the top ear, a smaller stem diameter, and a shorter tassel peduncle length.
The grain of the line is white. In combination with appropriate testers, the use of this line allows for the production of hybrids with a relative maturity of about 114 days, distinguished by high yield and good grain color. The line is characterized by excellent pollen production ability and trait stability.
