The Ph44a line is genetic material not intended for direct sowing in fields. It is used in breeding work as a parental component for the development of other lines and hybrid combinations.
The plant is characterized by high yield as part of hybrids, a low number of tillers, as well as resistance to Helminthosporium leaf spot and maize rust.
