The variety is a product of folk selection, adapted to the harsh conditions of mountainous regions. It belongs to the group of varieties with a pointed grain shape (Rostrata Group), which is an evolutionary mechanism to accelerate the drying process in mountain climates.
The plant is traditionally grown for the production of polenta flour. The grain is characterized by a high anthocyanin content. Due to the genetic variability inherent in heirloom varieties, the maize possesses resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses.
