The UH250 line was developed in the University of Hohenheim breeding program. It is used as a model object in scientific research of genetics, quantitative trait loci mapping, heterosis studies, analysis of resistance to diseases, in particular common smut, and adaptation to abiotic stresses.

In scientific literature, the line is used for comparison with other samples when studying root system development, gene expression, and genomic selection efficiency. Data on agronomic characteristics typical of commercial varieties are absent, as the object is intended exclusively for research purposes.
