Fusarium Wilt of Cauliflower

Brassica oleracea L. (Cauliflower Group)

Fusarium wilt of cauliflower is caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. conglutinans, manifesting as vascular tissue damage and loss of turgor. A characteristic diagnostic feature is the browning of the vascular ring in cross-sections of stems and petioles.

In the reference 31 varieties crop Cauliflower, where this is mentioned in the description.

The primary causal agent of the disease is the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. conglutinans, particularly its race 1, which affects a wide range of brassica crops. In some cases, cauliflower infection by the species Fusarium equiseti, causing similar symptoms, has been recorded. The disease manifests as yellowing and wilting of leaves, often unilateral in nature, as well as deformation of leaf blades and their premature shedding.

On cross-sections of petioles or stems of infected plants, a brown or light-brown vascular ring is observed. In seedlings, the infection leads to rapid death, whereas in mature plants, stunted growth and the formation of underdeveloped or deformed heads are observed. In breeding programs, the FocBo1 resistance locus is used to control the disease, and the presence of genetic resistance in varieties is labeled with the Foc code.
