Gerbera double-flowering is a qualitative morphological trait of the inflorescence type, determined by the number of rows of ray florets and the degree of transformation of the disc florets in the central disc.

During gerbera cultivar testing, the trait is visually assessed at the full flowering stage as a discrete category. Inflorescences are classified into single, semi-double, and double forms depending on the structure of the central disc and the number of rows of ray florets.

Single types are characterized by a distinct central disc with one or several rows of ray florets. In double forms, partial or complete replacement of the disc florets by ray florets is observed, which gives the inflorescence a denser and more voluminous structure.

Double-flowering is a stable genetic characteristic of a specific cultivar and a key criterion for its commercial classification. Unlike viral diseases in other crops, this trait is not a pathological condition and does not require agrotechnical corrective measures.
