A fungal disease of carrots caused primarily by the pathogen Erysiphe heraclei. It manifests as a white powdery coating on leaves and stems, which leads to their desiccation and a reduction in root quality.

The main causal agent of powdery mildew on carrots is the fungus Erysiphe heraclei, with infection by the fungus Leveillula taurica also being noted, primarily in southern regions. The disease affects all aerial parts of the plant, starting with the appearance of a white mycelial coating, which eventually thickens and takes on a grayish hue. During the second half of the growing season, cleistothecia form on the coating in the form of small dark spots.

As a result of the infection, leaves curl, turn brown, and become brittle, which slows the development of the roots, making them small and fibrous, and reduces their dry matter content. In seed crops, mass flower mortality and shedding of immature seeds are observed. Breeding efforts for the crop are aimed at identifying dominant resistance genes to Erysiphe heraclei and using molecular markers linked to resistance loci.
