Zonal pelargonium in open ground requires stable temperatures above +12°C, as flowering ceases during cold snaps. The plant needs open areas with good light exposure; in low light conditions, shoots become spindly, and the characteristic zonal pattern on the leaves is lost.
Planting requires loose, well-drained soils without waterlogging, which is detrimental to the root system. When planting in flower beds, a distance of 20 cm must be maintained to avoid overcrowding, which promotes the development of leaf spot. Watering is performed at the base, taking into account the crop's high drought tolerance.
Agrotechnology includes pinching shoots to encourage branching and regular removal of spent inflorescences to stimulate successive flowering waves. Since the crop does not overwinter in temperate climates, the plants are dug up and moved to a sheltered area in the autumn.
