Growing petunias in open fields requires protection from mechanical damage caused by precipitation and wind, as well as the selection of well-drained soils and sunny sites. The crop is sensitive to late spring frosts and requires regular deadheading to maintain flowering.

For successful petunia vegetation in open fields, it is critical to provide protection from strong winds and precipitation, which damage fragile long shoots and deform flowers, especially in double-flowered varieties. The plant prefers well-lit sites and drained loamy or sandy loam soils enriched with organic matter up to a depth of 25 cm.

Seedlings are transplanted using the transfer method when soil temperatures are no lower than 10–12°C after a period of adaptation and hardening. An important biological feature is the presence of glandular hairs on the surface of leaves and stems that create a sticky layer, as well as the necessity for weekly removal of wilted flowers to stimulate continuous blooming.
