The productivity of fodder beet is evaluated by a set of quantitative parameters in field trials: gross root yield in tons or centners per hectare, as well as the output of dry matter, feed units, and digestible protein. The latter indicators are considered more accurate criteria of quality, as excessive moisture accumulation in root crops can decrease the energy value of the harvest.
In intensive production systems, root yield reaches 560–600 c/ha, and in cases of high performance, it can reach up to 1400 c/ha. Agronomists aim for a balance between total biomass and dry matter yield, taking their inverse correlation into account. Maximum realization of potential depends on plant stand density and balanced mineral nutrition, including boron.
