Watermelon productivity

The main quantitative criteria for watermelon productivity are yield, expressed in tons or centners per hectare, as well as yield structure, which includes average fruit weight and the number of marketable fruits per unit area. When conducting variety trials, additional quality parameters such as dry matter content and sugar content are taken into account.

Productivity indicators depend on the variety's maturity group, planting scheme, and climatic conditions. Under standard cultivation conditions, the yield of modern varieties and hybrids often ranges from 25–30 t/ha and above, with the potential of a variety being determined by its ability to exceed the performance of an accepted standard.

The realization of the crop's potential productivity directly depends on adherence to agricultural practices, including the organization of drip irrigation, optimization of plant spacing, and temperature management using transplanting methods or film covers, which is critical in high-risk farming zones.
