Variety traits
Zea mays L.
A complex indicator of a maize hybrid's or variety's ability to form an economically valuable yield of grain or biomass under specific conditions. It is evaluated through quantitative parameters of yield structure and physiological indicators of photosynthetic activity.
In the reference 374 varieties crop Maize, where this is mentioned in the description.
Maize productivity is determined by grain yield, adjusted to 14% moisture, or by green mass yield for silage. Key elements of the yield structure include plant stand density per unit area, the number of ears per plant, and the grain weight per ear. In scientific research, leaf area index and net assimilation rate are additionally used as indicators.
Absolute productivity values depend on the FAO maturity group and the cultivation region, with high hybrid efficiency being determined by exceeding the parameters of the regional standard. Yield is highly dependent on sowing density: with excessive thickening, competition between plants reduces individual productivity, while with insufficient density, the resources of the site are not fully utilized.
For silage production, productivity is evaluated not only by mass but also by energy value and starch content in the total biomass. When selecting highly productive hybrids, strict adherence to agronomic practices is required, including mineral nutrition systems and protection against adverse factors, as the ability to maintain yield under stress conditions is a critical component of realizing biological potential.
