Lantana vigor characterizes the intensity of vegetative mass accumulation and the plant's branching capacity. This indicator determines the choice of agrotechnical practices and classifies cultivars into compact forms or vigorously developing specimens.

To quantitatively assess lantana vigor, a Growth Index is applied, calculated based on the height and diameter of the bush, as well as a visual assessment of the rate of full container coverage or the speed of shoot growth over 30–90 days. Cultivars are categorized from compact to very vigorous types.

Tall lantana forms are prone to the rapid formation of dense thickets and reach a height of 2–3 meters under natural conditions, which requires regular pinching to stimulate branching and prevent shoot bareness. Compact cultivars are characterized by limited internode elongation, making them preferable for intensive ornamental floriculture.

Lantana vigor is closely dependent on agrotechnics: excessive nitrogen application stimulates over-vegetation to the detriment of flowering. Suppressed vigor often serves as an indicator of stress factors, such as light deficiency, disrupted irrigation regimes, pest infestation, or the influence of allelopathic substances.
