Frost resistance of Lantana
Lantana camara L.
Lantana is a tropical plant with high sensitivity to low temperatures. Even brief frosts cause irreversible damage to foliage and shoots, and prolonged exposure to freezing conditions leads to the death of the above-ground part of the plant.
In the reference 16 varieties crop Lantana, where this is mentioned in the description.
Lantana possesses low frost tolerance, which is characteristic of tropical crops. Exposure to sub-zero temperatures causes browning and necrosis of the leaf apparatus, depriving the plant of its aesthetic qualities. If temperatures remain below freezing for a prolonged period, the entire above-ground vegetative mass dies.
Due to the high phytotoxicity of the leaves and immature fruits, Lantana is not considered as a subject for the food industry or culinary processing. The term "frost" in relation to this crop has an exclusively negative connotation and describes a climatic limiting factor for its cultivation.
