There are also forms where the succulent, fully formed seeds extracted from the pods are consumed.
The term refers to the state of the product prior to culinary processing, rather than the method of consumption. Raw bean pods contain toxic substances, such as lectins and glucosides; therefore, fresh use of the product always requires subsequent heat treatment.
