Variety traits
Brassica napus var. napus
An important morphological trait of rapeseed that influences lodging resistance, harvesting efficiency, and productivity. Optimal parameters are determined by the balance between vegetative vigor and mechanization requirements.
In the reference 560 varieties crop Rapeseed, where this is mentioned in the description.
When assessing rapeseed height before inflorescence emergence, the stem length is measured from the soil surface to the growing point, and after emergence, from the base to the top of the inflorescence on the main stem. Modern breeding forms range from 90–100 cm to 140–180 cm.
Short-stemmed forms with a height of about 95–100 cm are most preferred for modern agriculture, as they possess increased lodging resistance. Excessive stem height often leads to harvesting losses and can be associated with later crop maturity.
Plant height directly affects combining efficiency: for direct harvesting, the optimal cutting height is approximately 30% of the total canopy height. This parameter is also taken into account when grouping varieties in cultivar trials for a correct comparative analysis of productivity.
