Plant height in flax is a morphological trait measured from the soil surface to the growth point, varying from 20 to 150 cm depending on the crop type and growing conditions.

For fiber flax, the optimal height is 80–120 cm, which ensures the production of high-quality long fiber. Oilseed flax is typically shorter, with its height varying from 20 to 125 cm. Crops less than 30 cm in height are considered short-statured and require specific adjustments to harvesting equipment to minimize losses.

When evaluating fiber flax, the technical stem length from the cotyledons to the beginning of the inflorescence branching is of key importance. Total plant height is influenced by seeding rate, abiotic factors, and the genetic characteristics of the cultivar. Stem height correlates directly with lodging resistance, which decreases under excessive plant density.
