Variety traits

Pea Plant Height

Pisum sativum L.

A morphological trait that determines the suitability for mechanized harvesting and the crop's resistance to lodging. It includes the total stem height and the height of the lowest pod attachment.

In the reference 425 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

Pea plant height is measured from the soil surface to the apex of the stem or to the attachment point of the uppermost reproductive node. In variety trials, the height of the lowest pod attachment is also recorded, which is critical for minimizing losses during combine harvesting. Varieties are categorized as short (up to 70–80 cm), medium-tall (70–100 cm), and tall (more than 80–100 cm).

The trait is closely related to lodging resistance: tall varieties are more susceptible to lodging under the influence of weather factors. High-density sowing increases both total height and pod attachment height due to inter-plant competition for light. Growth regulators and micronutrient fertilizers are also used to optimize morphometric parameters.
