Greenhouse Bean Cultivation

Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Growing beans in a greenhouse requires strict maintenance of the temperature regime within the range of +15…+26 °C and ensuring intensive lighting with a day length of at least 10–12 hours.

In the reference 67 varieties crop Common bean, where this is mentioned in the description.

For the successful development of beans in a greenhouse, it is necessary to adhere to the temperature regime: +20…+26 °C during the day and +15…+18 °C at night. The plant is critically sensitive to extreme temperatures below +15 °C and above +30 °C, and in unheated structures, sowing is possible only after the soil has warmed up to +12…+14 °C at a depth of 10 cm.

In enclosed spaces, ventilation is of key importance as it helps reduce excessive humidity to prevent fungal diseases and improves fruit set through natural air circulation. The photophilous nature of the crop requires maximum light access, as a deficiency leads to stem elongation.

The cultivation technology includes the use of the seedling method in individual containers to accelerate ripening and the application of a staggered sowing method at intervals of 2–3 weeks. For climbing varieties, the construction of supports is mandatory, which minimizes the risk of vegetative mass contact with the soil surface.
