The shallot variety «Spring Field» is included in the European catalogues of vegetable varieties and is used in UPOV technical protocols as a reference sample for testing distinctness, uniformity and stability.

The plant belongs to the Allium cepa L. var. aggregatum group and is propagated vegetatively. The main morphological characteristic of the variety is the medium size of the bulbs, corresponding to the fifth level on a nine-point evaluation scale.
