The variety is known as a local landrace, historically associated with irrigation techniques in the Marecchia river valley. It is also called «Cipolla dell'acqua» or «zvòla da aqua». The variety has «Slow Food Presidium» status.
Bulbs reach a weight of up to 1 kg, have golden outer scales and white flesh color. The variety belongs to the early maturity group. Taste qualities are characterized as very sweet, which allows the onion to be used raw, as well as for baking.
The traditional cultivation cycle includes sowing in January, transplanting seedlings in March, and harvesting, which begins from mid-July and continues until September.
