The Račanka variety is indigenous to the Raka region in Slovenia and is maintained within the framework of local agronomic traditions and scientific research by the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. The variety is included in the country's official variety list.

The plant belongs to the group of quite early varieties. When growing, early planting in February or March is recommended, which allows the onion to strengthen before the period of onion fly activity in May. To obtain a harvest, it is recommended to use sets with a diameter of 6–8 mm, as larger planting material is prone to bolting.
