The variety (sometimes referred to by selection number D5537) was morphologically close to the Spartan Banner variety. The variety was a historical standard for comparative trials in northern regions (muckland areas) along with such varieties as Spartan Banner and Sentinel.
The plant was intended for commercial production under long-day conditions. In publications from the period of its distribution, no specific disease resistance was claimed for the variety.
