The Aprilatica variety, also known as Marzaiola, is a local ecotype belonging to the Cipolla Bianca di Margherita group. The bulbs have a white color and a flattened shape. The flesh is distinguished by its juiciness, tenderness, and crunchy texture.
The produce is characterized by a sweet taste and high content of sugars, phenolic compounds, and volatile sulfur-containing substances. The variety is intended for fresh consumption; the harvest takes place in mid-March.
Sowing of seeds is carried out in late August or early September; transplanting of seedlings into open ground is performed from November to February. An important condition of the agrotechnics is providing irrigation at the seedling establishment stage.
