The variety originates from Yugoslavia. In a number of contexts, it is mentioned as part of the local 'Prizrenski' forms in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the 'Domaći Pogačar' and 'Kolačar' forms. The variety has been recorded in international seed bank databases since 1963.
