The plant has a total height of 50–60 cm. The leaves are broad, blue-green in color, and change color to violet or purple when exposed to low temperatures. The blanched part ("shank") is short or medium in length, thick, and cylindrical in shape.
The variety belongs to late winter types with a vegetation period of 120–140 days. It possesses high growth vigor and significant cold tolerance, which allows the crop to be left in the ground over winter for harvesting until the spring period.
The produce is used in cooking for the preparation of various dishes. Due to the unusual decorative color of the foliage, the variety is also grown as an ornamental crop.
