The plant exhibits vigorous growth and an upright habit; the leaves are dark green and characterized as thick and tubular. The variety is perennial and of the open-pollinated type, not a hybrid.

Gonzalo is suitable for cultivation in open fields, as well as in container gardening or on balconies. The plant has high resistance to rust and is intended for use as fresh greens in culinary applications.
