The Jalna variety is a winter form of oats obtained through breeding involving the parent varieties Craig and Solva. The plant belongs to traditional forms of oats and is not hulless.

During the period of the late 1990s and early 2000s, the variety was recognized as one of the leaders in yield indicators. The main agronomic trait of the crop is the high kernel content in the grain.
