The Pendek variety is characterized by a plant height within the range of 84–100 cm and very strong stems. Due to its good lodging resistance and short stature, the variety is classified as a high-energy type.

In literature, Pendek is noted as a valuable source of genes for combating crown rust, including genes Pc-38, Pc-39, Pc-40 and Pc-45. High indicators of digestibility and protein content make it sought after in fodder production.
