The Sherwood variety appears in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada documentation as an object of breeding research conducted with the participation of the Ottawa Research and Development Centre. In scientific literature, the variety has been used as genetic material for studying genotype-by-environment interactions, as well as a comparative standard in trials of other oat varieties.

In field trial reports for cereal crops in Ontario, the variety is mentioned in comparative yield tables. According to official Canadian documents, this variety is characterized by medium or good lodging resistance.
