Chard (Beta vulgaris subsp. cicla) is a vigorous plant up to 50 cm tall with dark red stems and dark green leaves. This heirloom variety is suitable for food use: young leaves are consumed as salad, and mature petioles are cooked like asparagus. The plant is resistant to light frosts and is capable of growing in both dry and moist conditions.
The sugar beet under the name "Vulkan" is a high-yielding sugar hybrid of Russian selection. It belongs to the mid-season maturity group with a growing season of 135–160 days. The root crop has a broad-conical shape and is characterized by resistance to Cercospora leaf spot, blackleg, and root rots.
