The AMETHYST variety belongs to sugar beet of old breeding. In scientific publications of the 1990s, it was mentioned as an object for studying the genetic variability of varieties and microbiological studies of the rhizosphere.
The plant has a prostrate canopy form and a relatively small leaf surface area. Due to these features, the variety was considered less competitive against weeds compared to later breeding developments.
