The variety was obtained through interspecific hybridization between cultivated sugar beet and the wild relative Patellifolia procumbens. As a result of breeding, a chromosome fragment providing resistance to the beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii was introduced into the genome.

The plant belongs to the category of nematode-resistant varieties capable of maintaining productivity when affected by the pest and contributing to a reduction in its population density in the soil. In the absence of nematodes, the variety may yield less than highly productive susceptible hybrids.
