The Piast variety is a diploid (2n) sugar beet variety. Its main characteristic is the presence of resistance to rhizomania, a dangerous viral disease of the crop.
In the official variety testing system, the variety is often used as a standard for comparing productivity and quality indicators when evaluating other varieties.
