The Joker hybrid is a 00-type winter oilseed rape characterized by low erucic acid and glucosinolate content. Its creation was a technological breakthrough in breeding, as it was based on a spontaneous mutation that allowed for the implementation of the MSL male sterility system for the production of high-yielding seeds.
Unlike later hybrids, Joker is historically classified as a pioneer of hybrid oilseed rape breeding, which set productivity standards for varieties of its time. In literature, it is described primarily in the context of its role in the development of the European oilseed rape market and as a reference hybrid of the 1990s period.
