The Br9 line serves as a parental form for the creation of broccoli hybrids, in particular the Marathon hybrid. It is actively used in breeding programs aimed at increasing the glucosinolate content in plants.
Morphologically, the line is characterized by a slender inflorescence type. In scientific research, Br9 is noted as possessing partial additive resistance to downy mildew caused by the pathogen Peronospora parasitica.
