The plant forms a rosette of long dark green leaves with wavy edges, outwardly resembling dandelion leaves. The main nutritional value comes from the young leaves and side shoots, called in the local dialect 'fioi'. The variety is a population, so its morphological traits may vary.
The variety is of the autumn-winter type. Sowing is usually carried out in June-July, seedling transplanting in late August, and harvesting begins in November and lasts until February-March. The plant has a powerful root system and good adaptability to local climatic conditions, showing viability in low-input farming.
